Finally - a home repair that we don't have to pay (too much) for! Roofers have been canvasing neighborhoods in Charlotte to determine if roofs have been damaged by hail during a catastrophic storm that occurred last year. One came by our house a few months ago and said we did have damage. I recently got a second opinion confirming that, and then called our insurance company to initiate a claim for a new roof. The adjuster concurred and wrote us a check! We just have to pay our deductible. And since it was a "catastrophic" storm, this should not affect our premiums in any way.
So we will be getting a new roof this week, including an upgrade to a ridge vent (instead of power vent) for the attics above the house and garage and a few new pieces of plywood on the roof over the garage (which now that it has been pointed out to me, I see how badly damaged it is - not from storms, but from extreme temperatures.)
