Preppy is Back

Perhaps some of you remember Joseph's preschool days when he always wore polo shirts tucked in to his pants and a belt and had everything just so.  Well, after what seemed like an interminable love affair with Star Wars t-shirts and camouflage shorts, Joseph has returned to his preppy ways, and then some.  If he had his druthers, he'd be wearing a jacket and a tie every day!  He takes great care to imitate Michael's manner of dress (particularly what he wears to work.)  First, he puts on an undershirt  that gets tucked into his underwear.  (You should have seen how thrilled he was when I bought him real undershirts last week!)   Then he puts on a dress shirt, tucks that into his khaki pants, and then puts on his belt.  And is usually begging to wear his jacket and tie or else talking about the next time he's planning to wear his jacket and tie (such as a play date with our friends!)  I did let him wear it for a whole morning at home last week, but at the same time, he only has one jacket and a couple of ties and I don't want them to get ruined!
He doesn't wear dress shirts every day (but maybe that's because they were in the laundry), but if it's not a dress shirt, it's often a collared shirt.  But even if it is just a t-shirt (and Star Wars t-shirts are still cherished), it is always tucked in and he's got a belt on, whether he's wearing shorts or pants.

Just an average Monday morning around here!  Joseph even tucks papers into his jacket and shirt pockets for added effect.

(FWIW, Simon still loves shorts and t-shirts and everything related to sports.  Clara enjoys dressing up with necklaces and anything pretty and also likes me to put pigtails in her hair.  (yay!))

  1. That is hilarious. I love it. My boy dresses preppy but that's because I don't allow any tee-shirts in the house! Bwa ha ha!
