Not quite camping

We had plans to go camping Friday night.  However, when we checked the forecast, it said rain starting around 10pm and continuing all day on Saturday for the location we had chosen.  (Cane Creek Park in Union County.)  We decided we would still go to the park for a picnic and fishing and fire and hiking.  Since we weren't actually camping, we could only go to the "day use" area of the park, where you can't build a real campfire.  (Michael's favorite part of camping, I think.)  He built a fire in the grill and we reheated our grilled cheese sandwiches there.  Michael just got fishing poles for himself and the boys since Joseph has been dying to go fishing ever since our Lake Anna vacation.  Our fishing excursion was relatively brief.... We were very close to a large lake, and there were plenty of places that were within walking distance to try fishing.  So they cast their lines several times with no nibbles and that was that!  There were a couple of old Ukranian men fishing nearby though who had quite the set up.  They had eight fishing poles lined up in the little alcove they had chosen near the picnic area and we saw one of them go up to his car several times with very large fish to transfer to the cooler.  We asked them about what sort of bait they were using and watched them for a little while.  They did not speak much English but were very friendly and showed us what they were using and that they were fishing for carp (and catching plenty of it!).   At the end of the day, we went for a little hike and then took the kids to play at a playground until the park closed.
