We just returned from our annual Wood Family Beach Trip to Hilton Head Island. We were in a new house this year, (because we were outgrowing the previous house. And when I say "we," it really just means Michael's and my family!) The accommodations were great, as usual. We did the things we always do which are basically, go to the beach, swim in the pool, eat, sleep, repeat. Although we did add in a new activity this year: daily corn-hole tournaments (with brackets and semi-finals and finals and everything!) Our niece, Claire, custom painted a couple of corn-hole boards and brought them on our vacation. Most of us had never played before, but we all had a lot of fun. I actually played pretty well in a couple of my games.
We had another slight change in our routine per a suggestion from Michael's dad (Papa). Instead of the ladies taking turns cooking dinner one night, we grilled out every night. The guys, in various combinations, did the grilling. The ladies (mostly Traci and Ellen) made some sides for the meat. We ate hamburgers and hot dogs, chicken, pork tenderloin, steak, fish and shrimp (plus take-out.)
Something else nice about this year is that the older cousins and the younger cousins seemed to interact and bond at a new level which was certainly heart-warming for Michael and me. (Our children comprise the complete set of "younger cousins.") Now we begin the countdown for next year's beach trip! (already scheduled, by the way, for the first week in August.)
